Evey, There should not be PM's to clean.  Do you see some?  I did not transfer those over yet.  (takes hours to do).

As far as log in "sticking" click the "remember me" check box.   That will do it.  I may have to extend that time it remembers your password.  I will have a look at that.

You have to hit Reply, then click Go to Advanced.  You will see all the emoticons there on the right side as well as LOTS of rich text options.  More than here.

On the icons, as you have done, you can do that when you do a new thread.  It's a cool feature.  On the emoticons, just look to the right of the composition window, select one of those, or click the "more" link.  They will all be there.  Just pick one.  Hope that answers it.

It turns out that the default setting for composing messages is Basic which does not include emoticons.  To change that we had to click on the drop down menu for Forum Actions, choose General Settings-Misc. options - message editor interface- enhanced. It is all the way at the bottom of General Settings.

I totally selected the "remember me" because i dont want to have to log in everytime...lol..i tried replying to a post to test and i am not logged in.

then i tried a bogus password and it does not say "welcome evey" so i know i am logging in right...

it is alright with me if you dont transfer PMs LMAO...i have an overwhelming amount of PMs to clean up!

Hmmmmmm, my lovely friends in Abraham :) - I am seeing what seems to be a fair amount of slightly hectic, not very playful ACTION here! ::LOL It seems to be some sort of moon-phase-related thing, because I was having technical hiccups of my own that had nothing to do with the forums. ::LOL

David, I was able to log in just fine. Log-in is remembered, too. No PMs in the in- or outbox. :allgood

I know this migration takes a lot of action. But maybe you could leave something for your UM to do? ::devil  And not feel called to soothe every one of us kids when we can't find our favorite toys right away in the new playroom? We can help each other out while you take care of the nitty-gritty. ::devil  Just my 2 bits.

Christine, I have not imported the PM's yet awaiting to see if I have to start from scratch again.  I will know that on Monday.  The main issue to take care of is the avatars.  None of them are showing from the migration of the database.

Meantime the database there is from yesterday afternoon on this forum and the shorter time we take to shift everything over there and shut down this one (for replies only, we will still have access to reading it), the better it will be.  So I am like a kid on Christmas Eve, a Santa eager to have the gifts opened and the smiles and joy to be experienced! :)

I may not bring in any PM's at all, you should be able to access them here and reply from here.  It will be a fresh clean start there as far as PM's go and there will be a 50 PM limit for storage there for all those ppl wanting to have a fresh new beginning that way.

If all goes well, and that's a big IF...this transfer may be done by Monday (tomorrow), late afternoon at the earliest. If so, I will let it alone for a few days and make the reply end date on this forum by mid week at the earliest.

It's exciting to me.  It's really a better playground!!  Lots more toys and things to explore.

It's all going to be just fine no matter what

relax, expect

let David do what David does

and then enjoy what he did

We can always add Avatars later David, no big deal, really

and we can make new pm's, we've already seen the old ones anyway

Thanks, Joan!   I bought phone support on this importer because it's a quite a complex thing and unique in all the cyber world.  There is nothing else that will import this forum's database, and no other forum software but Vbulletin (the Rolls Royce of forum software, IMHO) that will do the job.

It's SO worth the time and cost because there's no other forum on the planet like this one.  And this one is built on shaky cyber ground with no phone support.  This forum's infrastructure is basically on the shoulders of one guy in Istanbul, Turkey.  He's saved us many times and I appreciate him very much, but I want and we deserve to have professional backup and support team working for us in software and hosting available 24/7 when there's a problem.  I believe we have that now.

My sense is that I will get an answer that will fill in all the blanks on the avatars and on anything else that pops up now and always that is asking for Love and attention.

David, Evey,

The login does actually stick. I noticed it this morning as well. Being a forum admin myself, I have to work on these little bugs.

Refreshing the page does not work, but you will find when you click on "Forum" (it's right below the logo, and next to "What's New", you will see you ARE actually logged in.

For everyone on this thread, I will include the below info. in my announcement to all about the news of the change to the new forum next week.  (I may use the mass mail utility, not sure yet), that there is a LOT of stuff you will want or (perish the thought...) :) even need to know in order take full advantage of what's available.  Those following this thread will get a preview first!

http://www.abeforum.com/faq.php

It's a worthwhile read to at least skim the FAQ here.

For those already logged in, for example, just have a look at the vast plethora of choices in your personal settings options in the user control panel by clicking each link on the left side at:

http://www.abeforum.com/usercp.php

Just one look at the General Settings link alone tells the story.  I am sure you will be as impressed as I am when you see all the choices for your forum experience.  All this and it's much more secure and reliable with great support, too!  I may end up doing a rampage on it.

Click the "remember user" check box once logged in.  And look above and see what Autumn13 said, you may already be logged in. :)
