Hi David, I find the new forum down. Is that like this for everyone?

I'm having the same problem, but since we all just got notified by email of the Big Change, those who have not been really up to speed on the news (which I actually think is the majority of members) have been probably jumping to the site.

With three days of posts missing on the new forum, it's strange to post something new. And it won't let me reply, anyway, for now!! I've tried on two threads.

David, I would respectfully ask that the old site be accessible in at least a copy-paste way (but not postable-to), for longer than Weds. I truly believe that there are more folks out of the loop than in the loop on all this, however much you have tried to keep communication plentiful. As evidenced by the fact that KatherineCHE just posted a new entry to our old-site MLOA thread! There are many posts missing that we now need to copy-paste ourselves. I'm going to copy/paste all my posts (that's a lot) to an internal document for safekeeping, as well. As you have informed everyone of the deadline already, I will, of course, understand if that is not possible. I have that task scheduled for tomorrow day (France time), which keeps me in the deadline.

What happened to PMs deadline-wise, since I sent a couple on Sunday and have not heard back from those folks - was that neutralized on Friday?

The problem with delaying the closing of this board is because too many posts will be here and not there.  I can start from scratch again, and maybe that's the best thing.  I've done that MANY times!  :) It's a 6 hour process at least, but it may be worth it.

As far as PM's they can be transfered, but you will have to download them to your local machine before you can use the PM facility.

Bottom line, we ARE going to move on the new forum, and it has to have as little delay as possible.  There are no absolutes on anything as far as times due to server load not being able to keep up with what we have here.

More later as I find out what else is happening.

The new server is up now.  If it gives you an error, just hang in there.  It's under a lot of load now.  :)  But good load!!

Hi David,

I don't know if you saw my Q re PM's on the new forum... I don't have any PM's in my inbox are there (I thought they would be transferred up to Monday, like posts... or did I misunderstand that...)

Anyway, if we have to transfer them ourselves is there a simple way to do that? or do we just copy and paste them?!!?! :?

Would it not then be more logical to just do a "last call before 2-day shutdown" on the old site, keep both sites off-line, transfer everything, then have the new site start running, with the only "active" portion of the old site being a copy-paste function for any oversights and the chance to access you to describe bugs and concerns?? Keeping both sites active seems to be making so much more work for you!  Heaven knows we probably all have enough Abe material of our own to survive 48 hours without a forum (however much I love it here, being at a 2-post-a-day average and gaining fast).

Ha!! This made me smile.  I hear you.

The reason we need to have the old one is for read only.  All links on the new forum will point here that are referring to posts here, and that's a LOT of them.

On PM's... this site needs to be open for them too.  I can move the PM from here to there, but since there's a limit of 50, that will disable anyone from PM'ing until that is cleared via downloading.  I don't want to do that now, but in a while, that will work.   I don't see need to do that anytime soon.  PM's from here can stay here for the time being.  Meantime, if you can, please delete your PM's from here that are of no use now.

This is a learn as you go thing for me in some areas,  I am boldly going where I have not been before... so it is a bit scary, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, and the new forum is a lot of gain!  If you like facebook and networking, putting your pictures in albums just like facebook does, and sharing friends in that same social network way, ....that's just where the good stuff you don't know about yet just begins.  But I don't have to sell the benefits, you will see it AND, Joan, you will love it.

The plan now: What I am thinking is to close threads as they develop with posts made at the closure of the thread to move it to the new forum.  Since this place has no way to close it all, that's the best way to do it.

Agree?  :)

I got scared this morning after the server crashed right away and got a LOT of mail from the mass mailing that it does not work.  Anyway, it's bipping along now, and that's great. It's all falling into place and I am delighted!!

Maybe it would help if the "NEW TOPIC" button was disabled on this forum prior to the official cut-off, so at least people are no longer starting new topics here.

??? Just a thought, to try to ease into the transition.

I have no way of doing that.   If I did, I would, but thanks.

The bulk of the transition is done!  That's the good news for me.  It's been almost two solid weeks of day and night, trial and error, support calls and the like.

A great analogy I made for it:  It is like you have 2 Boeing 747's.  One has no cockpit with all the wiring, and one does.  My task was to move the cockpit with every connection made.   So there was a few tries to get it all right.  :)  But it's pretty much ready for take off now, and it's looking good.

My bad, I am not reading each and every post in this thread, but was just over at the new forum and ran into something.

On this forum when you post in a thread or send a PM there is a spell checker that works wonderfully.  In the new forum there is not a spell checker icon when using the PM and the spell checker icon in a regular posting directs me to download a separate internet spell checker that is not part and parcel of the forum itself.

Are there plans to incorporate a spell check into the new forum like there is one here. Or will everyone be forced to indewr mi terrrible splling?

Also I sent another member a PM but on my side it does not hold a sent copy.  Does this just not happen or did the PM not get sent?

Just throwing my experience out there for consideration.  That being said, thanks for all the hard work.  It is appreciated.

:)  IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!  :)

This forum will no longer be used for New Threads or replies.  As a result, this thread is now closed and can continue at:

http://www.abeforum.com

Please bookmark it. :)  It is operational now with substantial improvements, new features and more additions than can be covered in this announcement.

All of original Abe Forum content has been imported to its new home as of August 20th at 6AM EST.  Any content after that date has not been imported, and so further postings need to be made just on the new site and not to this one any longer.

Eventually, all threads will be closed here, I am starting that task now.  Please watch for announcements on the top thread on the new forum,
http://www.abeforum.com under the Abraham Teachings and you.
