Hi Forum Members!
The nature of our discussion here leads naturally to a lot of "quoting" going on, and this is a good thing!
A few guidelines to make it an even better thing:
When quoting Abraham:
1. Please keep quotes "fairly" brief - no real rule here, just keep in mind that it's copyrighted material so we don't want to go "on and on".
2. Reference quotes clearly.
-If you are transcribing from an audio source - clearly state that fact and which tape/CD/video/whatever you are quoting.
- If you are quoting from a written source - clearly state where the quote begins and ends, and as much information about the source as you have available.
Of course often we are "quoting" from memory, and this is perfectly fine as long as that's not more than a couple of lines (unless there are some elephants on the board  ) and it's not necessary to reference exactly where you heard it, as long as you say "Abraham says..." or "I heard Abraham say.... or similar... since you may have heard it countless times. Examples of this are "Life is supposed to be fun" and "Get in the Vortex".
When quoting other Forum Members:
There are two ways to reply in a thread:
1. Click "reply". The editor will open up with a blank window for you to type your reply. It is usually assumed that your comments refer to the first post in the thread, or to the post directly above yours. In these cases "quoting" is usually not necessary.
OR if you wish to respond to a particular part of a previous post:
2. Instead of clicking "reply", click "quote" above the first post in the thread or above any subsequent reply. In this case, the editor will open with the full text of that post showing.
When using the "quote" option remember:
A. Do not use this feature if your post is to be a direct response to the previous post. Doing this simply makes that post appear twice in a row, with your response below, making the thread cumbersome.
B. Always edit the post you are quoting. In most cases, you do not need to have the entire previous post showing in yours, but only the relevant portion to which your reply is a response. It's easy to edit. Just place the cursor inside the quote box and delete any portion that is not necessary. Delete any signatures, emoticons, and extra spaces. The software automatically tells us "so and so wrote...."
C. Try to quote as small an amount of the previous text as possible and still make your point, so that members who read the thread later do not have to read a long text several times or scroll to find new material.
D. Please write your own comments OUTSIDE the quote box so that it is obvious where the "so and so wrote" ends, and you begin.

Thanks Jody for posting this and for putting it in this forum (I rarely go to the tech one).
I was wondering - I was thinking I need to put "<snip> .....<snip>" when I edit out from someone's post to get to the part I'm responding to. I'm guessing that's just a courtesy and not a "needed" thing...?

That is not a bad idea... I understand where you are coming from... to show that you are not quoting the entire post. You can certainly do that if you like. I sometimes put three periods as in
"...blah blah "
to show an incomplete quote.
Keep in mind that when someone reads your reply which includes a quote from "upthread", they have presumably already read the post you are quoting, so they usually know you are just partially quoting. But still "snip" is fine. I use that a lot in material I send my clients when copying and pasting just relevant parts of articles or papers.

I'm reasonably new, and have a hilarious question: how do I get my cursor ouside the quote box? I'm having no trouble quoting someone, but then I can't seem to write my own comments outside the box!!!
I thought about trying lots of different things, but technology is a little upstream for me!!! Thanks very much, Sweetheart xxx

Sweetheart - welcome to the forum and thanks for your question... is anyone else having a problem? For me, just clicking in the space under the quote box works..
I'll make sure David sees this question - maybe he'll know why you might be having that challenge...

If the cursor does not place with a click, try using your up/down and left/right cursor buttons from the keyboard control.

Hi Frog! Do you mean quote a post from a different thread than the one you are replying in? Hmmm.. I guess you'd just have to open it up in a different browser window or tab and copy and paste it into your reply. Just don't forget to write in:
"So and so wrote" so we know who you are quoting. You can also add the link to the thread you are quoting from if that's relevant.

Hi Jody. Thank you for your help. What i meant was to quote from different posts in the same thread, using the boxes. For example:
John wrote:
[box] "This and this......" [box]
and then from another post in the same thread
Mary wrote:
[box] "Yada, yada......." [box]
Or i have to just copy and paste them into my reply, like you said?

Thank you for clarifying. Actually I did cover that in my original post at the top of this thread, but I'll try to make it more clear here:
When you want to quote a previous poster in the same thread, instead of clicking on "reply", click on "quote" above the post you wish to quote. The reply editor will open, just as if you had clicked "reply", and the previous post will appear in a box.
Then, delete the unnecessary portions of the previous post by placing your cursor in the box. Then, place your cursor OUTSIDE the box and write your own response.

Hi Jody,
As a complement to quoting Abraham in text, would it be okay to embed short audio extracts? For me there's a very different vibrational quality to actually hearing the words.

HI Everyone, I'm bumping this thread up on the forum because I think we can all use a little "refesher" in how to use the quotes feature when replying in a thread. Please have a quick re-read of this everyone. Following these guidelines helps keep the threads from getting super top-heavy.
