This just dumped a whole lot into my vortex.  A loving group of Abers from all around this beautiful planet singing together in so many languages, sharing love and songs with one another.  We need to plan something for the cruise. . . I am seeing a bon fire and all of us and marshmellows?  Do they have marshmellows down under?  What about smores?

Smores?  Don't know ... let me introduce the Northerners to the Southern Night Sky.  All through our dancing, singing and loving, these gods and goddesses will be joining us.

This is so much fun! Joyous Lady, that pic is taken from above Port Chalmers, where I live. The ship will berth just in to the left. The mountain, well, hill really, in the background is Hereweka.
We have marshmallows, but no smores, (whatever they are).
The other I posted today is at the head of Milford Sound, which is so deep, that big ships can go right up to that waterfall!
I am filled with absolute loving knowing that I will be meeting you all in 11 months time!

Great pictures.  Thank you!

Can anyone recommend a program to reduce the size of photos so I can add some?

S'mores are graham crackers, milk chocolate bars and roasted marshmellows made into a sandwich type thing.  Typically they are eaten around a campfire.

I am so excited; Australia and New Zealand are going to be amazing!::boatwave

I love that I called my mom on SKYPE on Valentine's day and got to talk to her for a long time and then I just followed my IB and said OK mom you need to get out your 2011 calendar and put a cruise to Australia and New Zealand on it. I would really like you to come with me and New Years in Sydney too::fireworks.  And she laughed and said that I had given her enough notice and well maybe that would be nice::woohoo. I would really enjoy sharing all this with my mom (I already do but more so).  ::boatwave ::TU::ilu, Nancy

S'mores... Mmm...

So imagine yourself out camping in the wide open wilderness with your favorite group of friends. The tents are all set up, the stars are out, dinner is finished and you are all sitting around by the light of the campfire perched on logs, rocks, your portable REI chairs - whatever you can find.

You are enjoying the laughter and jokes, the enjoyment and fun, of being part of the group and telling stories. And then someone says "Anyone up for S'mores?" and pulls out a bag of marshmallows, a package of graham crackers, a bunch of Hershey's chocolate bars and some wire coat hangers.

Everyone grabs a coat hanger and unbends the twisted bits to make a long wire stick and then spears one, maybe two, marshmallows on the end. Then you all sit around in a circle around the fire, holding your marshmallows as close to the hot coals or bright flames as you dare to get it warm, toasted and roasted.

Graham crackers are passed around. Everyone takes one long sweet cracker and breaks it in half on the dotted line. Then the chocolate bars come around. Half of a chocolate bar gets placed on one half of the graham cracker while the empty top half waits for the marshmallow.

Someone across the firepit underestimates the heat of the fire and the flammability of whipped sugar and gelatin (aka marshmallow) and ends up with a flaming torch on the end of their roasting stick.

And then your marshmallow is ready. You know it's ready not only because it's golden brown along the sides, but because it's starting to slide off of your stick. The only way to save it is to use your other hand (already prepared with the bottom and top of the s'mores sandwich in your hand) to reach out as you pull your roasting wire it out of the fire -- gently so you don't loosen the glob of sweet toasted-ness any more.

Expertly letting the marshmallow settle on top of the chocolate bar and using only the thumb of your sandwich hand, flipping the second graham cracker over on top of the marshmallow and then pressing firmly while pulling the wire roasting stick smoothly out of the sandwich.

As the warm marshmallow heats heats and softens the chocolate bar and the marshmallow bulges out of the side of the sandwich, you realize there is no way you will be able to eat this and NOT lick your fingers afterward.
::LOL
Now THAT is a s'mores!

Oh Rebecca,

Please tell me what books you have authored!  I want to go to Amazon right now and order them.  Wow.  You created such a wonderful picture in my mind that my stomach was ready for a S'more!  That was amazing and beautiful.  Thank you!::TU

<licking gooey marshmellow from my fingers and greedily eyeing the bag of marshmellows>.  Inspiration strikes (thanks IB).  To satisfy her ulterior motive of having more marshmellows, Jeanine suggests a marshmellow roasting contest to see who can get their marshmellow 'just right'.  Grinning even broader when Stevie says he will roast his but he does not want to eat it she joyfully squers a marshmellow onto the end of her wire and focuses upon getting it toasty brown on all sides.  She does not really care who wins; only that she gets to eat some more of the delicious treats and lick the goo from her fingers.   Hmmmm that part might be a fun time to tease Stevie. . .::LOL

Maybe I should add a s'more to the picture?  Here is a t-shirt I made in anticipation of the Australia/NZ cruise.

Well, you lovely Americans will have to bring the ingredients for those fantastic sounding SMORES to the cruise - thanks RR for your wonderful description of not only what they are, but how you make & eat them! One more question though - what is a 'graham cracker' ?::LOL (And we think we speak the same language!)
