Oh, this is so exciting!!  Any thoughts about December vs. January?  Any more Aussies who might make the trip if we do it in January? There are pros and cons to both... January the crowds are even smaller, but December has all the incredible Christmas decorations and extra shows and special parade...
I don't want to conflict with any Stateside Abe events... which is one reason I lean toward December...
For those of you wanting to bring school aged kids, this will mean either only coming for the weekend, or taking them out of school for a few days - neither of our suggested weeks are school breaks.
Input anyone?

I like December. If it conflicts with my son's school, I'll run down by myself.

The only advantage to January is that January can be ungodly boring after the holidays :)

Okay, everyone, I've added a "roll call" to the first post in this thread, under the links to the trip report.  Please let us know if you would like to participate!  I think David and I will be down there for about a week.. I'd like to know how long each of you would  be likely to come.  Anywhere from one afternoon/evening to a week would work... thoughts, anyone?

I am interested in coming - and for the kids, mine are out still out for the first week in January, I believe.

I do love Christmas there, but I love January there too! What a great way to begin a new year!!

I tend to think January may be the better choice because there tends to be so much going on just before Christmas - but I am open to it all!

In joy, Steph

If we make it, we will stay for a week.

I talked with my wife about this and she loves the idea. A weekend afternoon/evening would be best for us -- that way we can drive down and back home the same day.

I'm flexible if it is the weekend. It could be one day or two days! You all may not believe it but...even though I live so close, I have NEVER been to Disney!

It'll be even funnerer with Abers!!

Jody,

My kids would definately want to come. My son homeschools so being away a week is not a huge issue, that's why we have a laptop. Going all the way to Florida, we'd want to be there for a week.

That said, December works better for me due to my school schedule. While school would start back for me the second week of January, I need to be here the first week in order to purchase my books. But that's just me. Whatever you decide, I will made the necessary adjustments to my schedule. Or wait for the second annual get together.:allgood

Any more votes as to December/January question? I am leaning toward December... and as I said, David and I will stay down there for a week.  Hopefully there will be at least one day when the entire Forum group will be together, and then smaller groups meeting over the rest of the time? I'm thinking character dinner for the full group meeting!
If we have a large group we might be able to get some special rates on hotels, etc.  All this should be done quite far in advance.
Is anyone on the board a travel agent?
Anyone else joining us? If you have never been to Disney World, know that it's the ultimate Aber playground (well, the whole WORLD is that, but WDW is really and truly magical for all ages), and well...

LIFE IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!!!

I am moving this thread to the gatherings forum where it actually belongs!

Still hoping for more participation! I know it seems a long way off... but December will be here before we know it!

Jody- I agree and would prefer the second week in December.  I'll be bringing DD and she'll still be in school.  We might take a Friday or Monday off and make it a nice long weekend around the week you'll be there.

This information put a HUGE smile on my face, Jen.  I've been so many times over the last 30 years that I told DD I would never go again.  Did I mention she is loving me becoming an Aber now!!  Anyway, I'd like to meet up with other Floridians, so let's make sure we get together on this trip.  I would like to see the look on your face when you enter the Magic Kingdom and take your first steps onto Main Street, it is pure magic and delight.
