HI Everyone
A couple of things about registration and membership that inquiring minds might want to know...
For newer members (the past 2 months or so), there is a new field on the profile you fill out at registration asking where you heard about the forum. It is interesting for us to see how members are attracting to us. If anyone who joined before this feature was added would like to, you can go back and edit your profile at any time and include this information.
You might notice the the announcement at the bottom of the forum homepage which asks us to welcome the "newest member" can seem squirrely. A couple of people have PM'd me asking how it is that "new members" seem to disappear and does this mean that we "reject" them somehow. There are no criteria for registering other than agreement with the guidelines and membership is immediate upon registration - there is no "approval process". However, as it turns out, there are ways for "spammers" to join the forum. These people or organizations have no interest in taking part in the forum, and have "joined" the forum as some kind of automated marketing trick. David checks the new members who register each day, and recognizes these spammers because their automated registrations circumvent the "agree" portion of the registration form which asks for agreement to the guidelines. Also, their homepages are usually ads for viagra, prescription drugs, porn sites, etc. So these "members" are deleted from the forum database, subsequently their names disappear from the "welcome our newest member" thingie at the bottom of the forum homepage, and that reverts back to the newest REAL member. This doesn't happen frequently and the vast majority of new registrations are wonderful Abers who enrich our experience every day!

I hope this is clear to everyone! Feel free to PM me or David if you have any questions about that (or anything else!)

Straight after you posted Jody, a little one got in lol
And they look manly like the snap-shot below and have user names that could be suspect
Once you recognise them they can be easily ignored.
And actually Jody is not telling you that her and David have been worked really hard to keep this Forum as clean of spammers as possible.
They really are doing a fantastic job!!

Edit: Oops sorry image doesn't come out big enough!!

Alix, and that was with your help recognizing the first batch of spammers that came through after we stopped requiring email checks for registration. So the "clean" forum is largely thanks to you as well!! The labor of love that is this forum is shared, and it really is a labor of LOVE
All is VERY WELL!

That emoticon says it all! And that's what I do with spammers.... a kiss, and then a goodbye. I actually like the process of doing that. Like going to the bathroom, it's a natural and healthy process of elimination.

Hi Jody,
I registered with the forum back in August. Now that I am wanting to be an active poster I would like to edit my profile, putting in more info and adding an avatar. Can you tell me how to edit it? I am Maureen1.
I am finally ready and so excited to be a part of this wonderful group!

I can`t answer your questions, dear Maureen - but I want to say a welcome to you! A good decision on this last day of the year!

Thanks Jody,
For some reason when I did that yesterday the screen that popped up was not editable. Now it is. So I should be all set! Thanks for your speedy reply.
