Is there a way to use the "Search" box to search for a phrase.

Like on Google, I can type "making eye contact" which will find websites with that entire phrase because I put it in speech marks?

Different to searching just for:  eye contact which will find results with the word 'eye' or 'contact'

No, unfortunately not.  Wouldn't that be nice?

Does anyone have any good hints for using the forum search engine? If so, please post them.

You can use the power of Google to search the theabeforum.com site (with one big caveat -- see the bottom of this post) and see the results in the Google search results format. To do this, you narrow the Google search to just this one website.

Type the following into the Google search engine box:

your search terms site:theabeforum.com

or

"your search terms" site:theabeforum.com

So, some examples might look like:

  • money site:theabeforum.com

  • money big deal site:theabeforum.com

  • "money is not a big hairy deal" site:theabeforum.com

  • money "big hairy deal" site:theabeforum.com

Each one of these searches will produce slightly different results but they will all find any page that has the exact sentence, "We'd really like for you to remember that money is not a big hairy deal like so many of you make it out to be."

(I don't know that Abraham has ever said those words, but that is on my mind this morning...)

If you go to the Google main page and click on Advanced Search (it's to the right of the Search button), you can also do more intricate searching like:

  • Find pages with all terms  (money AND big AND deal)

  • Find pages with any terms (money OR big OR deal)

  • Find pages with this/these term(s) but not this/these term(s) (money AND deal BUT NOT large)

And you can restrict your search to just a particular forum:

Abraham-Hicks Teachings and You

your search terms site:theabeforum.com/forum2/

Tell us about yourself

your search terms site:theabeforum.com/forum4/

Workshops, Cruises and Gatherings

your search terms site:theabeforum.com/forum3/

Rampages of Appreciation

your search terms site:theabeforum.com/forum6/

Resources for Forum Members
your search terms site:theabeforum.com/forum7/

Technical Questions
your search terms site:theabeforum.com/forum5/

The One Big Caveat:  You can only find pages that Google has indexed, so recent posts will probably not show up.  I don't know how frequently Google indexes this site, but a safe bet is that the last few days of posts will not show up.  Today is Sunday and the earliest posts I can find are from Monday.  So, this is not a good solution for recent posts, but it could easily supplement or add power to searches you do directly inside the forum itself.

Much love,
Frank

Thanks Frank.  I've known this trick for years and never thought about making a post of it.  Thanks for doing that.  Also, I will look into making a "search this site" box for the front page.  The software has problems with numbers in searching that Google would not.  Thanks again!

I have the new search window on the front page. Thank you, Frank, for the inspiration to do it.

  :beautiful: And useful too! ;)
